Q. What is the anti-aging treatment?
A. It is a purified protein administered in a simple, non-surgical procedure that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people aged 18 to 65.
Q. What is the Cosmetic procedure like?
A. It’s a simple, 10-minute treatment consisting of a few tiny injections and there’s no downtime. The doctor decides exactly where to administer the anti wrinkle cosmetic for best results.
Q. Is the procedure painful?
A. It causes little discomfort, which is minimal and temporary.
Q. Will I need anaesthesia?
A. No. But your doctor may choose to numb the injected area with a cold pack or anaesthetic cream before the actual treatment.
Q. When will I start to see results?
A. You should start to see a visible improvement in the area between your brows within a few days. The area may continue to improve for up to a week.
Q. How long will the results last?
A. With proper unit dosing, the effects of anti aging treatment can last up to 4 months.
Q. How will the anti aging treatment affect my facial expressions?
A. The protein is injected in small doses directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows to form, allowing that area to smooth out. It won’t affect your ability to laugh, smile, or otherwise express yourself.
Q. What type of peels are there?
A.
Q. What are the benefits of Chemical Face Peels?
A. Chemical peels are typically used to restore a youthful, vibrant appearance to wrinkly, blotchy, sun-damaged skin. There are three main types of chemical face peels, and each has unique benefits for the skin. The light chemical peel improves acne scars and skin texture, and reduces the effects of sun damage. The medium chemical peel improves acne as well. The medium peel also smoothes fine surface wrinkles, and corrects pigment problems such as age spots. The deep chemical peel helps treat sun-damaged skin, eliminates deep, coarse wrinkles, and can remove pre-cancerous growths. A cosmetic dermatologist can advise you on which peel is right for you.
Q. Is it painful?
A. A chemical peel will cause a stinging or burning sensation to the treated skin upon contact with the AHA, TCA, or phenol solution. Even the lightest AHA (alphahydroxy acid) peel can result in temporary stinging. Most patients do not find the stinging and burning sensation painful, and some patients even describe it in positive terms
Q. Are there any after effects?
A. Temporary Redness
The strength of the solution used for the chemical peel will determine how much redness will occur, and how long the redness will last. An AHA skin peel may cause no redness at all for some patients, whereas a TCA (medium) chemical peel can be expected to result in significant redness that can last for weeks. A phenol chemical peel will be followed by pronounced redness that can last three to four months.
Crusting and Skin Irritation
Crusts or scabs may develop on areas treated with any type of chemical peel as the skin reacts to the "trauma" of having a mild acid solution applied to it. Phenol peels, in particular, can be expected to result in some crusting as the old layer of skin exfoliates and the underlying layer of skin emerges. Your cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist will give you instructions for treating the crusting and skin irritation produced by a chemical peel, including instructions for cleaning the skin and protecting it with sunscreen.
Flaking and Peeling
Flaking and peeling are normal chemical peel side effects that are temporary and relatively minor. A patient must not pick at the flakes and peeling skin because pulling off peeling skin before it is ready can result in infection and scarring. Your doctor may give you an ointment or lotion to protect your skin as it peels and flakes. The treated skin will heal at its own rate, and the result will be fresher, younger-looking skin.
Changes in Skin Colour
Among the more serious and undesirable chemical peel side effects are changes in shin colour. It is possible, although rare when you're treated by a qualified physician, to develop hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation after a chemical peel. Hyperpigmentation is increased colour of the skin. For example, the new skin that develops after a deep chemical peel may turn darker than the untreated skin near it (especially if sunscreen is not used sufficiently after the peel). Hypopigmentation is depleted skin colour. This condition is often temporary. More information about hypo- and hyperpigmentation as chemical peel side effects is available on the Risks and Benefits of Chemical Peels page.
Q. Will a chemical peel help my skin?
A. A chemical peel is a procedure that rejuvenates skin. Most individuals find benefit from the application of glycolic acid. In almost all cases, patients will notice an improved vitality of skin.
Q. How long does it take to have a chemical peel?
A. About thirty minutes in total, hence it has often been referred to as "the lunch time peel".
Q. Can I go right back to work?
A. In most cases, work or other normal activities may be resumed immediately.
Q. Can I go out into the sun after having a chemical peel?
A. You may go outside, but sunscreen must be worn for at least a few days after the peel as your skin will likely be a little more sensitive to sun exposure.
Q. How many chemical peels should I have and how often is it recommended?
A. Many individuals find that a peel performed every four to six weeks gives optimal results. Glycolic acid peels complement the regular use of other products such as glycolic acid containing preparations that can be used on a regular basis at home. The short term exposure of a higher concentration of glycolic acid on a periodic basis helps maintain skin health and appearance.
Q. Will a chemical peel remove deep lines or wrinkles?
A. A glycolic acid peel will not remove deep lines. Laser resurfacing is recommended in most cases where wrinkles are advanced. However, a peel will often improve the tone, texture, smoothness and appearance of skin.

Q. How does Restylane® work?
A. Restylane® is a crystal-clear gel produced biotechnologically using stabilized, nonanimal hyaluronic acid and water. The hyaluronic acid is a tissue-friendly substance closely resembling the hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in the body. By replenishing nature’s supply of hyaluronic acid, Restylane® revitalizes and plumps up the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and giving a softer look.
Q. What does Restylane® treatment involve?
A. Restylane® is injected into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. The gel provides hydration and structure and gives natural volume to smooth away the appearance of lines, enhance facial shape, or create fuller lips.
The treatment is very quick and often takes less than 30 minutes. The treatment benefits can normally be seen instantly and Restylane® does not affect facial expression. No skin test is required because Restylane® does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
Q. What areas can be treated?
A. Restylane® treatments can be used to smooth out facial lines, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin. It is a subtle approach to enhancing looks naturally.
The most common areas treated are:
Q. How much does a Restylane® treatment cost?
A. During your pretreatment consultation, you should discuss the cost of the treatment with your practitioner.
Q. How long does Restylane® treatment effect last?
A. One of the great advantages of Restylane® is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. You are always in control of your looks.
Duration depends on many factors, such as skin type, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded by the patient and the injection technique of the practitioner.
Q. Does Restylane® treatment hurt?
A. Some people may experience the treatment as a mild discomfort. A local anesthetic cream is often used. Another form of anesthesia, a dental bloc, is used to numb the area when enhancing lips.
Q. Can Restylane® be used if I have had laser treatment or a chemical peel?
A. If you have recently had some kind of cosmetic treatment, it is recommended you wait until the area is totally healed and the skin is back to its normal condition. This usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Q. Is there any downtime with Restylane®?
A. You can expect slight redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and/or bruising following Restylane® treatment. This is the same as you might expect with any type of injection. However, the discomfort is temporary and generally disappears after a few days. With lip enhancement, it is wise to choose your treatment time with care since your lips may become swollen and appear slightly uneven for a few days.
Q. Are there any risks with Restylane®?
A. More than 10 million treatments have been carried out since the launch of Restylane® in 1996. Some common injection-related reactions might occur after a Restylane® injection; they typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days after injection. These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. Inflammatory reactions may last for up to two weeks in rare cases. After a lip enhancement, your lips may be swollen for several days.
Q. Are there any side effects with Restylane®?
A. Most people can benefit from Restylane® treatment.
Restylane® should not be used in or near skin sites where there are or have been active skin disease, inflammation or related conditions. Nor should it be injected into an area where a permanent implant has been placed. Restylane® has not been tested in pregnant or breast-feeding women.
During your pretreatment consultation, you should thoroughly discuss your medical history with your practitioner.
Q. How does the system work?
A. The energy from the light source is taken up by the pigments (melanin and Haemoglobin) in the skin, hairs and blood vessels. Selective filtration makes the energy uptake specific for melanin; this is system can be used for hair removal, vascular lesions and pigmented lesions.
Hair removal is accomplished by the generation of heat from light in the melanin, which is transferred to the hair follicle (or root).
Q. Why is gel used?
A. It is necessary to apply a thin layer of gel to the skin prior to treatment to assure an optimal transmission of light from the applicator of the skin.
Q. How is the treatment carried out?
A. The applicator (hand-piece) is placed in contact with the skin surface and the light pulsed through it onto the skin. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated.
Q. Who can be treated?
A. Dark hairs are most easily treated due to the large concentration of dark melanin in these, which gives maximum absorption and conversion of light energy to heat.
Very fair hair has less melanin and so less heat is produced making it less certain of permanent destruction of the follicles.
Grey or white hair has almost no melanin and cannot be effectively treated. The upper skin layer, of the epidermis, also contains melanin and the concentration increases when the skin is exposed to UV light.
It is therefore necessary to treat dark skinned and tanned individuals with less energy to avoid generation of excess heat and pain in the skin.
Q. Does it hurt?
A. The pain depends upon the concentration of melanin in the epidermis and the hairs combined so it hurts more in dark skinned people and those with dense, dark hairs.
No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the pain as moderate and acceptable – a bit like a rubber band being snapped against the skin.
Q. Does the patient need to shave prior to treatment?
A. Hairs should be at least 1-2mm long so that it is possible to mark out the treatment area. Long hairs take up the energy and prevent all of it reaching the hair follicle; therefore hair is trimmed just before treatment to ensure maximum transmission of energy. Plucking or bleaching before a treatment should be avoided. Also avoid epilation or waxing 4 weeks before treatment.
Q. Why do hairs ‘grow’ after treatment?
A. Hairs are not vaporised by the Pulsar treatment, the hair follicles are killed by the heat but the hairs remain in the skin and often become attached to the epidermis. They will fall out after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis is renewed. During this period it will seem that the hairs are growing as they are pushed out.
Q. How can you tell if the treatment has worked when the hairs are not removed immediately?
A. After treatment the hairs are often loose within the follicle and can easily be removed with tweezers. A red ring around each follicle is often seen a few minutes after each treatment. These are good indications that the treatment has worked. Unfortunately they are not always seen and we have seen many patients with successful treatment results without the post-treatment signs.
Q. What are the side effects?
A. The skin of some patients becomes quite red immediately after treatment and very rarely small blisters as from excessive sun exposure can occur. However most patients experience no side effects at all and the described skin reactions above usually disappear within hours to a few days.
Q. How many treatments are necessary?
A. Only hair in the growth phase can be treated. The number of hairs in this phase varies from 10-70% depending on the body site. The lengths of the growth cycles also vary. For most patients up to four treatments is enough with two to three months interval are sufficient to remove virtually all hairs.
After the first treatment most patients get a significant reduction n hair density also new grown hairs tend to become finer. The first treatment is believed to synchronise the anogen (growth) phase of the non-anagen hairs. This may cause what seems to be re-growth but which is actually just the sleeping hairs starting to grow at the same time. This in turn makes the next treatment more effective.
Q. How do I prepare for treatment?
A. Patients should avoid tanning 1 month ahead of and during the entire treatment scenario to avoid excessive discomfort from excessive light absorption in the epidermis.
On treatment day, please do not use deodorant, perfumed of aromatherapy products.
Immediately after treatment the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light and strong sunlight should be avoided for 4-5 days.
Q. How long does treatment take?
A. The facial treatment usually takes 10 minutes whereas both legs and an entire back take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Q. Is it permanent?
A. Most authorities would agree that using current laser and light technology it is possible to permanently remove hair.
Q. What is Mesotherapy?
A. Mesotherapy involves the injection of a potent cocktail of conventional or homeopathic medicines-vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and amino-acids - directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) to nourish and rejuvenate, promote production of collagen and elastin and stimulate your skin's metabolism.
As your skin ages, circulation decreases and the resulting reduction of oxygen and nutrients hinders your body's ability to flush out toxins. This is what drives premature ageing and causes the skin to develop an ashen appearance.
People who have had mesotherapy (or 'skin-prick nutrition') describe their skin as looking rested, radiant, glowing and firmer.
Q. What will happen during the treatment?
A. Multiple micro-injections using a very fine needle are administered immediately beneath the surface of the skin, directly into the problem area requiring treatment. The aim is to replace the minerals, vitamins and amino-acids that are lost as we age.
Q. Is it painful?
A. Treatment is not painful but a slight discomfort may be experienced. If you do find it uncomfortable, an anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment.
Q. How long does the treatment take?
A. Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes.
Q. What is the recovery time?
A. After the treatment you can normally return to day-to-day activities immediately. You may experience a little swelling, which will settle within 24 hours. Another possible side effect is the appearance of some small bruises which will also disappear quickly.
Q. How often do I need to repeat treatments?
A. The 'Vitamin Facial' is usually performed over an initial series of one session per week for 4 weeks. Results are then maintained by twice-a-year touch up sessions.
Micro-injections of hyaluronic acid (Restylane Vital) are used to restore plumpness and volume to areas such as the back of the hands, neck and décolletage. Typically, the initial treatment course consists of 3 sessions, 1 month apart then 3 - 4 times yearly for maintenance.
Q. Can I have Mesotherapy at the same time as other anti-ageing treatments?
A. Mesotherapy can be used as a supplement or an alternative to other treatments. It is a wonderful compliment to skin peels, Botulinum Toxin and dermal fillers but also stands on it's own as a powerful anti-ageing therapy.
Q. How safe is Mesotherapy?
A. Pioneered by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952, Mesotherapy is now widely used all over the world to treat a wide range of injuries and medical conditions e.g. arthritis, migraines, recurrent ENT infections (sinusitis, rhinitis), asthma, sports injuries (pulled muscles, tendonitis) and chronic pain. Mesotherapy is considered an extremely safe aesthetic treatment.
Q. What’s in the gel?
A. It is the same solution that is provided by your Dentist. Our supplier manufactures this product for Dental Distributors. It’s a solution of Glycerin (preservative) and Carbamide Peroxide. Glycerin is the ingredient, which helps keep the Carbamide active for an extended period of time.
Q. Will it hurt my teeth?
A. It will not hurt your teeth. Carbamide Peroxide penetrates the pores of your teeth and removes the stains that have been accumulated over the years. Whitening has been available for over a hundred years; and has been proven to be completely safe and effective.
Q. I’ve heard that it causes a lot of sensitivity?
A. The process can cause some sensitivity. Usually it will dissipate in a day or two. If you already have sensitive teeth, we suggest using Sensodyne toothpaste. The fluoride and potassium nitrate will help eliminate the sensitivity by clogging the pores. It does slow down the process slightly, but you will still get great results. However, the way we teach you to use the system, eliminates a lot of problems associated with sensitivity. We allow your teeth to adapt to the Glycerin (which causes the sensitivity) and still maximize your results.
Q. What is Glycerin?
A. Glycerin is a preservative that helps keep the Carbamide Peroxide active for a longer period of time. This allows the product to have an extended shelf life. Glycerin is used in many products including, various brands of toothpaste, lotion and deodorant. It does cause dryness as it removes some of the moisture in your teeth, which can cause initial minor sensitivity.
Q. Will it lighten my crown, bridges, or fillings?
A. It will not lighten any crowns, bridges or fillings. Only real teeth surfaces.
Q. How is this better than the whitening kits you buy in the shops?
A. The store kits have what they call “Boil and Bite” trays. What this means, is that you boil them and then put them in your mouth and bite down hard to have them form to your teeth. This procedure is very ineffective, because you can’t have the tray hot enough for it to really form correctly to your teeth without burning your mouth. Non-moldable tray whitening is another system that you can buy over the counter, this is a very uncomfortable procedure because you have a sports mouth guard type tray in your mouth for 15 to 30 minutes, twice a day, and it is very difficult to keep the gel from your gums. You can’t talk, your saliva dilutes the system and the air kills off the Peroxide. It gives you an upset stomach and a sore throat if you swallow the solution, which is very difficult to avoid.
Q. What about laser whitening or power whitening?
A. Hollywood Smiles offers the Starlite power whitening system. The system achieves fantastic results within an hour. Pair this with the Hollywood Smiles Custom Tray system and have the Ultimate Hollywood Smile!
Q. What about white spots on my teeth?
A. Our product is great for that as it whitens of the rest of your teeth to match more closely. You will see a more even colour between the white spots and your teeth. Those spots could have been caused by flourosis (fluoride staining), decalcification (break down of the teeth, on the verge of a cavity) or some sort of trauma to your teeth as a child (a fever or a blow to the mouth).
Q. What about brown spots on my teeth?
A. Do the brown spots cause you any discomfort? If they do you’ll want to visit your dentist. If they don’t hurt they are probably some other type of stain. This product will most likely lighten those types of brown spots.
Q. What about the discoloration of a root canal?
A. Unfortunately, it won’t lighten that. There are few things you can do for that. Some options might include internal bleaching, a veneer or a crown.
Q. Will my dental insurance cover this?
A. Your dental insurance won’t cover this because it is a cosmetic procedure. No cosmetic whitening procedure would be covered by your insurance.
Q. What if I’ve got a tooth or teeth that are painful?
A. Go get it checked out by your local Dentist before whitening to make sure it is safe.
Q. What if I’m in the middle of a root canal?
A. Wait till you’re done.
Q. What if I have a temporary on for a permanent crown?
A. Wait till you’re done. The substance used when taking an impression will pop your temporary off.
Q. I heard this procedure would eat my teeth.
A. It won’t eat your teeth. People who abuse the system might develop sensitivity to their teeth, but this will subside. Wearing it for 24 to 48 consecutive hours could cause sensitivity.
Q. Can my daughter or son do it?
A. They need to be at least 16 years of age and have parental consent to do so. Their teeth haven’t completely moved down yet. It’s better to wait until they are at least 16.
Q. Why are you able to do this at such a low price?
A. We produce everything in house, we have our own state of the art laboratory, which creates everything you require to have a Hollywood Smile, this cuts out overheads and we can pass the savings on to you. This has opened the door to a larger group of consumers who in the past may not have been able to afford this service. All personnel have undergone the Hollywood Smiles training program and will guide you on taking an impression of your teeth.
Q. Is it a permanent process?
A. It is a permanent process as long as you don’t drink coffee or tea or you don’t smoke. If you do, it does require a touch up about every 4-6 months. Wearing your trays once every two to three weeks is considered good maintenance. If you require more whitening gel you can come back to our clinic and purchase more there is no need to have the complete process carried out again.
Q. How long does it take to create my plastic custom fit trays?
A. We only need you in store for about 30 minutes, in order to have a consultation and your impressions taken. We can then have your plastic trays and the complete system ready for you within around 4-7 days.
